Marvelous, architectural blunder

The leaning tower of Pisa; like hordes of other tourists, we took the 1 hr train ride from the Cinque Terre villages to the city of Pisa to witness the one of the world’s most marvelous, architectural blunder that is the tower.

We had decided to do just a day trip in Pisa and that proved to be a sensible one as the city has little other to offer than the tower.

Never before have I been to a city where a few thousand people simultaneously have their hands raised in a position to high five thin air. I could imagine the economy of Pisa sustaining itself purely on that one image. Needless to say, we also shameless indulged in the act.

Dee and I sticking to tourist tradition

Dee and I spent our next 4 hours walking around the tower clockwise, then anti clockwise (thing you do to amuse yourself) and then marveled at the giant basilik next to the tower that most seemed to ignore other than use as shade from the sun.

The majestic tower captured post our arvo nap

The giant basilik

The Facts:

  • Do not get fleased by tour guides. See the tower, do the post and get out of the city.
  • Once out of Pisa, trains to Milano above or Firanze beside cost 30 and 7 Euros respectively
  • Next Stop: Firanze

Agree – one day is all you need there!
Did you see the suspended lamp in the cathedral that inspired Galileo to investigate the swing of the pendulum when he studied in Pisa…. or hear the (musical) acoustics in the baptistry (that’s the pic of it in your blog)?
Hope that you spend more time in Firenze than what you did in Pisa! (Could spend a month there and still not see everything!)
